What is your usual rate?
Our rates respect the conventions of the various technician associations. Rates are based on a predetermined number of hours, as well as on the equipment used. We generally work full days or half days, but under conditions. We would be happy to provide you with a quote for your project.
Where can you make sound recordings?
Sound recordings can be made in all locations where there is air, but not all locations are suitable for good sound recording. We cannot always control the sound environment, but rest assured, our sound recordists will notify the director and/or production team in the event of a problem.
If you use our location scouting services, we recommend that you bring a sound recordist along with your DOP, director, etc., during technical visits, as only he or she can anticipate possible sound issues.
If you wish to continue the recording, despite having been warned by our sound recordists about possible technical issues, you are 100% responsible for the final result.
What kind of project are you working on?
With a versatile and professional team, we have been called upon to work on all types of productions, whether it be fiction films, documentaries, television series, commercials, or corporate productions. We have the know-how and equipment required to ensure exceptional sound quality from start to finish.
Do you offer sound post-production services?
Yes, we are able to offer audio post-production services. Whether you wish to do a complete post-production or just a few voice-overs, we are able to prepare a sound post-production session with one of our sound engineers.
What kind of package do you offer?
Our packages are generally based on the type of production, we have, of course, an essential minimum; our recording technicians are professionals and will not accept to make a poor-quality recording. Packages are per day, week, month, or by production.
I’m the producer of a reality show with 10 participants, are you able to do the sound recording?
For a quick answer, YES. This type of production requires the presence of two or more sound recordists. We are accustomed to managing several frequencies and making sure that no outside interference hinders the production. The management of the various transmitter/receiver frequencies of the participants’ wireless microphones is handled by our senior sound recordist. Data management is handled by our digital data manager, which is part of our camera department.
All audio and video capture equipment are fully synchronized with each other and checked several times a day to ensure that post-production can proceed in an optimal manner.
What technical training have your sound engineers / recordists undergone?
Our sound engineers / recordists are generally musicians or music and sound enthusiasts. Each of our sound technicians has a training in sound recording and continues to receive regular technical training, as well as training for the sound department.
What equipment comes with your basic packages?
In our basic sets, we have:
- Digital multitrack recorder
- Two wireless microphones
- Boompole and a shotgun microphone
- Weather protectors and wind attenuators suitable for filming
Afterwards, depending on the type of production, we have various essential equipment to ensure the best possible quality sound recording. We will not cut into equipment and/or use lower-quality equipment, in order to reduce the price.
How long have you been offering the sound recording service?
Films.Solutions has been offering sound recording services for nearly 10 years. For us, sound recording is as important as image recording. Our sound recording team is trained, prepared and knows how to adapt to the various climatic, technical and legal conditions encountered in Canada.
Is good sound recording important?
A good sound recording is as essential as a good image recording. Of course, all the sound can be redone in post-production, and our sound engineers are able to do this. If your budget allows it, we will be happy to redo your entire project in post-production.
From planning and pre-production, to production to post, we are first in and last out and handle everything in between while remaining calm under pressure.
We are constantly striving to reach new levels of expertise in capturing the light, expressing an emotion or telling a compelling story, right from the first shot.
Whether artistic direction or accessory management on the set, we have the resources to carry out your production.
